service to others

Service to others is an important part of spiritual life for members of the herchurch community. We support community organizations, including the SAGE (Standing Against Global Exploitation) project and the San Francisco Night Ministry, with donations and by collecting toiletries for these organizations in our sanctuary entryway.

Our members are also involved in several community service initiatives. Please visit our Events page for upcoming opportunities.

 Donations

Donations of soft protein bars now being accepted to distribute to the hungry homeless. See donation box in the entryway. Thank you. The protein bars will be given to Night Minister Rev. Thom to distribute on his nightly city-rounds.

Friendship Banquet

The Friendship Banquet was founded in 1991 in order to build community with indigent, HIV-positive men, women and children.  Since that time, thousands of volunteers from a myriad of organizations have served thousands of meals to Banquet guests.  Most Banquet guests are homeless or live in temporary housing in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District.  In addition to the challenges they face battling a life-threatening illness, many also struggle with substance abuse and/or physical, mental and dental health disabilities.  Banquet guests are served a 3-course meal in a warm and cozy setting–a Welcome respite from their daily struggles.  Banquet guests eat nourishing food and have the opportunity to socialize with their peers, friends and families.
